BILL TO GIVE LOCALS SAY IN CASINO LOCATION MOVES TO GOVERNOR'S DESK
Senate passes a landmark bill that gives locals control over local decisions
SALEM- The Oregon Senate voted yesterday to send Senate Bill 1042, sponsored by Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson (D-Gresham), to the Governor for his signature. The legislation prohibits private casinos from locating in a town without local approval.
"The decision to allow a Casino to locate in a town should be decided collectively by the citizens of the town," said Senator Monnes Anderson. "This bill makes sure that locals do get a say on an important local decision."
Senator Monnes Anderson worked hard to make sure that local citizens have a say in how their communities develop. Her work, along with constituent support, was critical to the final passage of this landmark bill.ÂÂ
"Senate Bill 1042 was one of my top priorities and its passage marks another success for the citizens of East County," said Senator Monnes Anderson.
Senate Bill 1042 was amended in the house to match the original Senate bill proposed by Senator Laurie Monnes Anderson and now moves to the Governor's desk for his signature.ÂÂ
