Jenni Simonis announces intention to seek appointment to Gresham City Council

Last week I announced my intention to seek appointment to the Gresham City Council.

One member of the council, Karylinn Echols, resigned on July 31, leaving her seat open. It will be filled by the council, and that person will serve in the position until the 2008 November election.

Below is the press release I sent out upon announcing my intentions:

Inside you'll find information on Democrat's Night at the Portland Beavers, a meeting for health care advocates on the Healthy Kids bill, and from a soldier in Iraq why we should set a definite timeline for withdrawal.

You'll also see a list of upcoming events, information on the DPO trainings, and more.ÂÂ

In memoriam: Sherin Lance

I recently learned that one of our long-time volunteers, Sherin Lance, passed away.

I first met Sherin shortly after I become involved in the party. She was welcoming and understood the issues I brought forth about east county since she lived east of 82nd Street herself.

When one of your heroes passes away...

Ann RichardsI just learned a few moments ago that a person I've looked up to for years just passed away-- former governor of Texas Ann Richards. Often called the "yellow rose of Texas," Ann was a spunky and intelligent woman. She never let anyone get in her way or tell her what to do. She was a strong woman and an inspiration to me for years. She always used to say that "Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels." While a teenager in Texas, Ann inspired me to do more in politics and get even more involved-- even though I wasn't old enough to vote. I never did have the chance to vote for Ann (the last time she ran was in 1994, and I turned 18 in 1996), but I did a lot to make sure others voted for her.
