Multnomah Democrats Elect Leadership Team

On January 10th the Central Committee of the Multnomah County Democratic Party elected new officers to serve through the 2008 elections.

Elected were Carla (KC) Hanson, Chair; Susan Silodor, Vice-chair; Laura Calvo, Treasurer; Susan Hagmeier, Communications Secretary; Travis Miller, Recording Secretary and Todd Barnhart, Historian.

KC Hanson became active in the Democratic Party in 2003 as she became increasingly alarmed at the direction our country was headed, as well as hopeful that the Democrats could steer the country in a better direction. She first got involved in Oregon politics in the early 1990's; some still remember her as the "yard sign lady” of the No on 13 campaign of 1994. Most recently she has served as Vice-Chair in Multnomah County, as well as on several caucuses, committees and task forces of the State Democratic Party.

"I'm thrilled at the opportunity to expand my work with the Democratic Party of Multnomah County, and honored to be selected as the Party leader. Our leadership team shares a common vision: getting Democrats involved in the political process and working for the common good of all Oregonians. Through the work of dedicated volunteers at all levels, our community and our country will get to a better place.”

"Broad participation is good not just for the Democratic Party but for our community, our state and our nation. Check out our website at www.multdems.org, come to our annual dinner on February 2nd and get involved as a Neighborhood Leader or Precinct Committee Person.”

Hanson was born in Berkeley, CA, grew up in California and Nevada, and graduated from the University of Kansas. She came to Oregon in 1989 when hired by the US Forest Service, and has operated a small business since 1995. A baseball fan, she sees politics as a team effort to make people's lives better.
