Results of House District 43 Nominating Convention

The Nominating Convention to select nominees for appointment to the office of State Representative, House District 43 was held on October 14th.

The convention came to order at 6:30, at which time credentialing closed. There were  79 credentialed, voting PCPs present.

The convention determined by vote that it would nominate exactly three candidates. The candidates were provided 5 minutes each to make statements to the convention regarding their candidacies.

The rules call for balloting to continue in each round until a candidate is nominated with more than 50% of the vote, with any candidate who is the lowest vote getter or who receives less than 10% of the vote eliminated from the following ballot.

Note: Carlos Richard sent late notice that he wished to withdraw his candidacy, and he was not present at the convention.

In the first round of voting, Lew Frederick was nominated on the first ballot with 54 votes out of 76, or about 71%.

In the second round,  Karol Collymore was nominated on the third ballot, with 32 out of 76 votes on the first ballot, 35 out of 74 votes on the second ballot, and 36 out of 71 votes on the third ballot.

In the third round,  Eddie Lincoln was nominated on the  first ballot, with 42 out of 69 votes.

The convention adjourned about 8 PM.

The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners will consider the nominees and make an appointment at their meeting on October 22, on the agenda for 10:30 AM Time Certain. The meeting will take place at the Multnomah Building, First Floor Commissioners Boardroom 100, 501 SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Portland.
